News 2022

It can be difficult to stay up-to-date with international research - finding articles actually relevant to your interests, and, if you are a practitioner, which also provide you with insights applicable to your work reality, is the first hurdle; finding the time to do an in-depth reading, filtering out the key points and relevant information often hardly seems feasible next to work and everyday-life responsibilities.
To make things easier, you can tune in to "Neues aus der Spitzenforschung in 220 Sekunden", a new podcast by Prof. Reitzig, going over some of the most exciting new research published in the field of management and organisation sciences. Each episode presents one recently published academic article - summarised for your convenience in just under 220 seconds.
You can find the playlist for the podcast on Youtube. (New episodes to come soon!)

While flattening hierarchical structures has become quite en vogue over the last years, it is not as easy to put in practice as it seems (and sometimes might not even be the best idea for a firm). How this endeavour can lead to success is the driving thought behind a recent expert commentary in the Handelsblatt, which Prof. Reitzig has written. If you missed the original publication last week (18 October 2022), you can find the text here, either online or as a pdf. (Only available in German.)

Earlier this year, Prof. Reitzig has published "Get Better at Flatter: A Guide to Shaping and Leading Organizations with Less Hierarchy" We are glad that the book has received positive resonance in general, and would like to highlight two recent reviews in the journal Standort38 (Funke Medien Gruppe; page 7 in the PDF reader), and the Handelsblatt.

While one's attitude towards risk-taking may be hard to (un-)learn, creative thinking is something that may well be taught and learned at the university. This, and whether there are economic opportunities to be found in moments of crisis, are topics discussed in a recent article in Die Presse, for which Prof. Reitzig was interviewed. You can read more here.
03 May
In the wider context of the AGV ArbeitgeberDialog towards the end of March, Prof. Reitzig was interviewed by Holger Isermann on topics such as the reorganization of organizations, suitable employees for such reorganizations (and how to keep them), as well as buzzwords such as "new work" and where their usefulness ends.
If this sounds like something you're interested in, you can read the interview, published in the May issue of Standort38, here.
30 March
Recent research by Prof. Reitzig and academic colleagues has been covered in the media.
If you are interested in Start-Ups and potential early problems that can occur, you might find the following article interesting: "The Start-Up Blind Spot that Trips New Ventures" (published in INSEAD knowledge, written by Prof. Phanish Puranam)
If your interests lie more in the direction of status and online communities, the following article will likely be for you: "Gaining Status in an Online Community" (published in the UCLA Anderson Review, written by Dee Gill)

We would like to inform you that Prof. Reitzig joins the incoming editorial team of Strategy Science, INFORM’s leading academic outlet in the field of strategy research, as contributing editor. Professor Reitzig was elected by the new Editor-in-Chief, Professor Todd Zenger from the University of Utah. In his new role, he will – in addition to handling and decisioning manuscripts – be engaged in initiatives aimed at sharpening further the journal’s profile in the innovation and technology space. Strategy Science, founded by former Editor-in-Chief Professor Dan Levinthal from Wharton in 2016, has risen fast in the international journal rankings since its inauguration and aims at firmly establishing itself as the second top-tier outlet in the field. Professor Reitzig is one of only three editors coming from a European University among Strategy Science’s team of seventeen editors working at institutions such as Harvard Business School, INSEAD, New York University, the University of California, the University of Madison of Wisconsin, and the University of Pennsylvania, to name but a few. In addition to his work at Strategy Science, Prof. Reitzig will remain a member of the editorial boards of Organization Science and the Strategic Management Journal on which he has served for almost a decade.

We are happy to let you know that the manuscript for "How to Get Better at Flatter Designs: Considerations for Shaping and Leading Organizations with Less Hierarchy", written by Prof. Reitzig, has been accepted for publication as a point of view article in the Journal of Organization Design. The article provides a synopsis of the (almost) homonymous book which is scheduled for publication with Palgrave MacMillan in February.
The peer-reviewed journal is focused on publishing research concerned with various structures, systems and processes that drive organizational outcomes, and is open to submissions that seek to contribute to the understanding of the foundations of organization design, as well as looking into new developments and phenomena.
